Mangrove ecosystems play an essential ecological role in coastal areas by protecting shorelines from abrasion, extreme waves, and seawater intrusion while functioning as carbon sinks that contribute to climate change mitigation. However, the mangrove ecosystem at Dupa Beach in Palu City faces environmental pressure and low community awareness regarding its ecological importance. This community service program was conducted to enhance the knowledge and participation of local youth and coastal communities in understanding the strategic role of mangroves for climate change mitigation and sustainable coastal development. The activities employed participatory approaches through environmental education, field mentoring, conservation training, and local institutional strengthening. The novelty of the program lies in the integration of climate mitigation education with practical conservation training and community empowerment within a coastal setting. The results indicate improved understanding among participants regarding the ecological functions of mangroves, particularly their carbon absorption capacity and protective role for coastal communities. Field observation identified healthy mangrove vegetation in several areas, along with degraded segments affected by abrasion and human activities. Conservation training successfully involved community members and students in planting and maintaining mangrove seedlings. The program concludes that mangrove conservation contributes to climate change mitigation and supports sustainable coastal development when supported by community participation. Future community service programs are recommended to strengthen local monitoring mechanisms and stakeholder collaboration to ensure long-term mangrove sustainability.
