Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the efforts to increase rice productivity in tidal areas containing high salt content (NaCl) is by using tolerant varietal characters. This study aims to obtain upland rice cultivars that are able to germinate normally at various concentrations of NaCl and obtain NaCl concentrations that can be tolerated in germination. This study used a two-factor factorial completely randomized design. The first factor used two upland rice cultivars namely Pae Bohe and Pulu Tau Leru and the second factor used seven levels of NaCl namely: Control, NaCl 0.5%, NaCl 0.6%, NaCl 0.7%, NaCl 0.8%, NaCl 0.9%, NaCl 1%, thus obtaining 14 experimental combinations repeated three times. The variables observed were germination time, germination power, maximum growth potential, plumula length, radicle length, plumula dry weight and radicle dry weight. The results of this study showed that Pulu Tau Leru cultivar with 0.5% NaCl concentration is a cultivar that has resistance to salinity that is able to germinate normally in the parameter of germination time of 3.27 days, Pulu Tau Leru cultivar is a cultivar that can withstand salinity stress that produces 87.62% germination power and 95.71% growth potential, and 0.5% NaCl concentration is a concentration tolerance limit that still provides normal germination.
